War & Peace by Randa Gahima

$650.00

24” x 36”

This acrylic painting on canvas is titled "War & Peace." While listening to the Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto's song "War & Peace," Randa composed this piece. This song offers a contemplative look at the fleeting nature of peace and the history of war throughout human history. This work essentially reflects Randa's interpretation of the song's questions and how he sees them, while also subtly criticizing the need for conflict in human history and the difficulties in achieving lasting peace. He used only a palette knife to create this picture, layering on a lot of acrylic paint and selecting colors based on how the song sounded to him when he listened to it repeatedly. This painting is part of a bigger project he's been working on in which he paints his interpretation of songs from a carefully curated playlist.
